A Day in the Life of a
Counselor-In-Training

At Belle Vie Farm, our goal is to make sure every camper, CIT and counselor finds joy, laughter, adventure, and excitement throughout every day! We make a special effort to help our CITs create friendships and learn while having fun.

What does a CIT's day look like? Check it out below!

CITs arrive at 8:00am each morning. By the time they arrive Monday morning, they will know which counselor(s) they are working with, which specials they'll help guide, and any other CIT who will work alongside them. CITs are a pivotal part of our morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. Alongside their counselor, they will greet new campers, help them learn where to store their belongings during the camp day, introduce them to other campers, and show them fun activities to do while waiting for all campers to arrive. Counselors will support CITs during this period, and camp directors will be moving from group to group providing additional support.

After drop-off, counselors, CITs and campers move into their first activity of the day. CITs may be offering support to their counselor by organizing materials, making sure all campers understand the counselor's instructions, giving extra support to campers in need, setting up an outdoor game, hiding special fairy gifts in the forest or possibly playing an NPC in one of BVF's role playing adventures . During the day, CITs will continue offering support in these ways. They will also be integral to BVF's specials program by assisting with gathering campers who are signed up for each special and getting those campers to the Artisan Barn or Art/Maker Space. CITs remain with the specials group, helping teach new skills to campers and providing additional support for the specials teacher.

At 12:15, CITs once again join with their regular group to help the half-day campers head home. Once pick-up has completed, CITs get to join together for lunch from 12:45-1:30. This is a great time for camaraderie, storytelling about the craziest thing that happened that day or commiserating about the most exasperating event of the week! CITs can choose to end their day by heading home after lunch or joining the extended day campers for fun until 4:30.
