Belle Vie Farm's
Heat & wind-chill policies

Climate change has ushered in special challenges for outdoor farm camps! At Belle Vie Farm, we are fortunate that 25 of our 34 acres is forested. This alone keeps our campers much cooler than a farm without a tree canopy. We offer the same protection to our farm animals by practicing silvopasture (pasturing in the forest/trees).

Even with our more than seven forest playgrounds, the heat can still push us indoors, especially during the 12:30-4:30 extended day period for 6-11 year olds. We take special precautions to ensure our campers are healthy and don't experience any heat-related illnesses. We use the chart below as a guide for keeping campers safe during extreme weather. During green periods, we play outdoors most of the day. During yellow periods, we err on the cautious side and limit our periods of outdoor play. During those periods, campers play in the Studio or make soap/candles in the barn. During red periods, we stay indoors.
