Are those sheep?!

Nope! Those furry little balls are pygmy angora goats - aka pygora goats! I fell in love with pygoras about 8 years ago, bought my first two from Mountain Meadow Farm in Asheville in 2020 (Wildflower & Guinevere) and my next two in 2025 (Olive and Daisy Mae). I'd like to breed them one day, but I am a slow learning farmer. I'll get there!

Pygora goats are full of antics and very loud bleats, especially Olive and Wildflower. There seems to be a correlation between size and bleat volume! Olive and Wildflower are the announcers of all things wrong in the pasture: Vinnie's horns are stuck in the vines again! The hen laid her egg in the hay bale AND IT'S IN MY WAY! The hay doesn't taste good anymore and we all agree you should roll the new bale in today!

Besides their cuteness, I was originally drawn to pygoras for their fiber. Their fleece can be sheered, processed and spun into beautiful yarn or used for various crafts, making them especially appealing to fiber artists. I am a spinner and knitter, so pygoras are perfect for me. I also LOVE cuteness (hence the lionhead bunny house expansion!).
If you'd like to learn more about pygoras, a great site to visit is the Pygora Breeders Association!
